The Ground Remembers
After a series of unexplained seismic events rock a remote Welsh mining valley, Bureau agent Maren Hale is dispatched to investigate. The locals blame old mine workings. The geologists blame tectonic anomalies. Maren suspects neither explanation accounts for the sounds coming from below — sounds that resemble breathing.
As the tremors grow stronger and more rhythmic, the valley begins to change. Roads shift. Buildings sink inches overnight. And the oldest residents start speaking in a dialect that hasn't been heard in centuries — warning of something they call "Y Deffro Mawr." The Great Awakening.
